Your stem cell donation - Preparation and procedure

Thank you for volunteering to donate your blood stem cells to a blood cancer patient whose life depends on your donation. You will be giving that patient the greatest gift of all: a second chance at life.

Donating stem cells is an act of the greatest altruistic kindness, and we are deeply grateful to you.
You will be donating your blood stem cells through the Peripheral Blood Stem Cell donation (PBSC) method. This is explained in detail, in the next article.

Peripheral blood stem cell collection is safe and the most commonly used donation method today.

Why is stem cell transport important for transplantation?

We all know that finding a matching donor can be lifesaving for a patient in need. Did you know it is equally important for the stem cells of the donor to reach the patient on time as delays in transplant can be life-threatening for a patient.

In rare cases, we may ask you to donate stem cells a second time.

Lymphocyte donation

On rare occasions, we may ask a donor to donate lymphocytes as well, to prevent or treat a relapse in the patient. The procedure is the same as for peripheral stem cell donation but without five days of G-CSF beforehand.
